The city's Downtown Special Events Commission is teaming up with the Downtown Alliance Revitalization Association and its local merchants to offer various events in the downtown area of public interest. Access the entire calendar list.

Light Up Downtown Alliance - Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, 6 p.m. @ Freedom Square. Annual Alliance tree lighting including Alliance High School's Jetsetters, Carnation Festival Queen Chelsea Foster and her court, Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus and characters from the Carnation City Players' "Beauty and the Beast Jr."(Contact Alliance Area Chamber of Commerce).

"Beauty and the Beast Jr.," - 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2 @ Firehouse Theatre. Additional shows at 2:30 pm. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3 and 10; 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4 and 11.

Juneteenth festival - TBA @ Downtown Alliance.

That's a Fact . . .

In 1850, the bulk of the city's downtown area consisted of Liberty, which was added to Williamsport and Freedom to form the city of Alliance. While Liberty was founded between Mechanic Avenue and Front Street, along with what is now East Main Street, neighboring Freedom was bounded to the north by Vine Street, east by Walnut Avenue, south by Wayne Street and west by Union Avenue.
